In your career, you have developed a powerful skill set, across many legal and compliance fields, that is critical to your organization’s success. Yet, getting your voice heard is often challenging. During this session with Professor Jolly, we will explore the key reasons why this is the case and, most importantly, what you can do to be more influential in your role. This is going to be a very practical, interactive session with a singular focus – ensuring that at the end of our day together, you have a plan for what you can do to take up your authority as powerfully as possible in your role.
Among the themes we will cover:
- Your influencing challenges
- Building trust and collaboration
- What do ‘trusted advisors’ do?
- The four behaviors of effective influencers

9:00 am - 10:15 am, Legal Upheaval: Exploring the New Expectations of Lawyers
Today, the focus is changing from what services and expertise professionals in the law marketplace provide to how they provide them. Clients’ call for innovation is in large part a call for a new level of excellence in client service—one that is focused on client experience and client-centricity and one that requires an innovator’s mindset. Leveraging hundreds of interviews with inhouse and law firm lawyers and heads of innovation from around the world, this session first explores these new expectations and why meeting these demands can be difficult for legal professionals. During the keynote, attendees will be asked to participate in two short exercises designed to build self awareness and promote the exploration of the ideal mindset, skillset, and behaviors to transform client relationships and create a client-leadership edge.
Michele DeStefano, Professor of Law at Miami University, Affiliated Faculty, Harvard Law School Executive Education and IE Law School; Founder & Director, LawWithoutWalls and MOVEL∆W
10:15 am - 10:30 am, Coffee Break
10:30 am - 12:00 pm, Transforming Client Relationships with Collaboration and Shifted Mindsets
This interactive keynote is all about the cultivation of a collaborative culture and a shifted mindset. This session introduces the Three Rules of Engagement that all legal professionals can follow to meet the changing expectations, enhance collaborative initiatives and leadership style, and transform relationships with clients. During this session, attendees will participate in two exercises to practice active listening, and enhance understanding of client centricity.
