Joseph Washington obtained his Ph.D. in Applied Physics from NC State University and has built a distinguished career at IBM, spanning roles in IBM Research, IBM Cloud, and IBM CIO. Throughout his journey, he has served as the technical lead for multiple large, multi-million-dollar digital transformations, leveraging AI and automation to transform IBM’s business operations and drive innovation.
As the Lead for AI and Automation at IBM Legal, he leads the development of go-to-market internal GenAI use cases. These typically leverage AI Agents orchestrated with offerings like watsonX to enhance legal productivity, optimize user journeys, and improve business outcomes via workflows through the ELM, CLM, and CRM platforms that power the IBM business.
In addition, Joseph is an IBM Quantum Ambassador and a Professional Fellow at the World Economic Forum. He currently resides in Raleigh, NC, with his wife, their two kids, and a growing number of grannies.
