Speaker Bio
Phil Rosenthal is the Chief Growth Officer of vLex. In April 2023, vLex and Fastcase merged, creating the world’s largest database of law, including the law of over 100 countries. This massive collection of legal materials enabled vLex to create the first global legal AI assistant, an award-winning generative AI platform that automates numerous research, litigation, and transactional workflows and transforms the way legal professionals tackle research, providing results that are verifiably grounded in actual law.

Prior to the merger, Rosenthal was the President and co-founder of Fastcase, a leading online legal research software and analytics company based in Washington, D.C., vLex/Fastcase provides subscription access to over one million lawyers—the vast majority of all the lawyers in the United States. We are also the number one provider of online legal research benefits to state and local bar associations around the country.

Before founding Fastcase, Rosenthal was an associate at Covington & Burling in Washington, D.C. His diverse legal practice encompassed nuclear, patent, telecommunications, environmental, and corporate law. He has served on the Board of the MIT Enterprise Forum of Washington/Baltimore and The Dwelling Place of Montgomery County and is currently on the Executive Board of the Endowment for Middle East Truth (EMET). Rosenthal also was an initial member of the Pluto Fast Flyby team at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory, which evolved into the mission that visited Pluto in 2015.

Phil earned a BS in physics from Yale University, where he graduated summa cum laude and Phi Beta Kappa and earned his JD at Harvard Law School (magna cum laude), where he assisted Professor Arthur Miller in updating the classic treatise, Federal Practice and Procedure. He continued his studies at the California Institute of Technology, where he earned both master’s and PhD degrees in physics for work in string cosmology. HE is a member of the New York Bar and the District of Columbia Bar.
