Courtney Barton serves as Managing Vice President, Assistant General Counsel, Global Privacy, AI, Data Governance & Technology at Marriott International. In this capacity, she works across the enterprise to provide legal advice and operational guidance on matters related to data privacy and protection, cybersecurity, information management, artificial intelligence (AI), biometrics, marketing, advertising technology, and a comprehensive range of compliance and litigation issues. Courtney’s experience includes roles as the in-house privacy lead for two global Fortune 500 companies, as well as outside counsel with Am Law 100 firms. She has been affiliated with the International Association of Privacy Professionals since 2009 (CIPP/US) and has contributed as a member of the IAPP Privacy Bar Advisory Board. Additionally, she is Co-Founder and former Co-Chair of the Data Privacy and Security Forum for the Association of Corporate Counsel for the National Capital Region (ACC-NCR), a former Board Member of ACC-NCR, and has served on the Data Privacy and Integrity Advisory Committee for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. Courtney frequently speaks on topics related to data privacy, security, e-discovery, and litigation. She is an alumna of Colby College and Tulane Law School, holds an MPH from Harvard University, and earned an Executive Leadership certificate from Cornell University. Licensed in the District of Columbia, Virginia, and Louisiana (inactive), she also co-edited Managing E-Discovery and ESI: From Pre-Litigation to Trial (ABA, 2011), with Michael Berman and the Hon. Paul W. Grimm.
