Joel is the Co-Chairman, Co-Founder, and CSuite member of Pierson Ferdinand LLP (“PierFerd”), a full-service, multi-national law firm with over 200 attorneys across more than 80 practice areas, serving clients in over 20 markets globally. PierFerd made history as the largest law firm launch in the United States on January 2, 2024, and continues at pace as one of the fastest growing law firms on the globe. Under Joel’s visionary co-leadership, along with A. Michael Pierson, PierFerd continues to redefine the modern elite law firm through its culture-oriented, diverse partnership, with a technology-focused infrastructure and client-centric model. His career has been marked by his dual roles as a litigator and business advisor/business leader, representing clients both in boardrooms and tribunals throughout the world in disputes, mitigation, and business scaling.

Joel continues to practice law as a business trial lawyer, handling sophisticated commercial disputes globally. He has a strong background in risk management and risk mitigation, counseling clients through business crises, and is frequently consulted as inhouse or outside general counsel. When necessary, he appears in tribunals globally for clients to try to conclusion sophisticated business disputes. His clients, ranging from large corporations to family-owned businesses and business executives, seek his aggressive, practical, and results-oriented approach to resolve their personal and professional issues.

Joel’s extensive experience includes, without limitation, appellate litigation, bankruptcy adversary proceedings, bid protests, debarments and appeals, breach of contract and Uniform Commercial Code claims, broker disputes, business management and operations, commercial landlord-tenant actions (including commercial evictions), condominium association litigation, consumer fraud and deceptive trade practices act claims, corporate governance, directors and officers claims, environmental claims, ethics and professional liability (including Rules of Professional Conduct and Solicitors Regulation Authority), health law, injunctions, insurance issues, lien claims (including commercial and residential construction liens), planning board actions, post-judgment collection, restrictive covenants, shareholder and partnership disputes, and shareholder derivative claims.

Before founding PierFerd with A. Michael Pierson, Joel played a pivotal role in building one of the 200 largest law firms in America by revenue. As the Managing Partner of its Litigation Department, he well more than tripled its revenue during his tenure, and also served as that law firm’s Global General Counsel and member of its Executive Committee. Prior to that, he was a senior associate in Fox Rothschild LLP’s litigation department, practicing in areas such as Attorneys and Law Firms, Construction, Directors and Officers Liability and Corporate Governance Disputes, Environmental, Health Law, Insurance, Litigation, and Zoning and Land Use. Joel has been recognized in SJ Magazine’s Top Attorneys list and in Super Lawyers. A merit scholar at Rutgers School of Law at Camden, Joel was active in the Rutgers Civil Practice Clinic and represented Rutgers Law on the Trial Advocacy Competition Team, also awarded the Philadelphia Trial Lawyers Association James J. Manderino Award for Trial Advocacy at that time. He also served during law school as the Editor-in-Chief of The Rutgers Journal of Law & Religion.

Joel practices and believes in servant leadership, the growth and well-being of each PierFerd Family member, and in radically disrupting legal service offerings.
