E.J. Bastien is Microsoft’s Sr. Director of Discovery Programs, leading the eDiscovery and Litigation Support function for its Litigation Department. In this role, E.J. manages a multidisciplinary team of Program Managers, Engineers, Paralegals, and Records Managers. Over his 20-year tenure, E.J. has been instrumental in re-envisioning Microsoft’s internal approach to eDiscovery, architecting processes for the identification, preservation, and collection of ESI, and guiding it through the stages of processing, analysis, and review. E.J. partners closely with Microsoft’s product development teams, planning and testing the platforms’ eDiscovery feature sets, and ensuring the company’s legal processes evolve in step with the technology it creates.

E.J. has also been a key leader in the adoption of AI technologies within Microsoft’s legal department, developing new workflows to harness burgeoning strengths and bridge current limitations. His innovative approach has significantly improved efficiency and accuracy in handling complex legal matters, bringing the last decade’s fantasies into everyday reality.
