Patrick Smith is the senior staff writer for The American Lawyer, covering the business of law. He joined ALM in 2019, previously covering business, sports and crime at NY1, The New York Daily News, WNBC and The Bridge BK. He won an Emmy for his coverage of the 2016 Summer Olympics for NBC Sports.

He is a University of Illinois graduate with advanced degrees in international relations (Johns Hopkins University) and journalism (Columbia University). Prior to his time in media, Patrick worked in both tech and the arts. He resides in Brooklyn with his family.
