For over two years, generative AI has changed the legal landscape—from the way legal teams research case law to how they conduct e-discovery. Generative AI is streamlining processes, enhancing decision-making, and reducing costs in e-discovery legal work—including early data assessment, data review, and privilege logging—as well as in contract analysis and legal research. However, with these exciting opportunities come potential challenges that must be navigated with care. In this program, you will hear perspectives from federal and state court judges, an Am Law 100 law firm partner and e-discovery practice group leader, international perspectives from a Relativity Master and AI Visionary from Africa’s largest law firm, in addition to hearing what the latest research data tells us about how generative AI is being used and what legal professionals see as the risks and rewards. Discussion topics include:
- What guidance do the Model Rules of Professional Conduct and ABA Formal Opinion 512 give us on the legal ethics responsibilities and potential risks of generative AI?
- How are judges and courts across the nation governing the use of generative AI?
- How does generative AI enhance the e-discovery process?
- What does the latest research data indicate about AI usage, risks, and benefits?
