Dave Cunningham is the chief information officer of Winston & Strawn and a veteran advisor to large law firms in the United States, UK, and Europe. Backed by one the best teams in the legal market, he is accountable for creating a competitive edge for Winston & Strawn using technology, information, and business processes. Areas of responsibility include information technology, library/research, practice support, and eDiscovery for 2,000 users across 15 offices.

Dave was previously managing director of the IT and management consultancy Hildebrandt Baker Robbins where he led the technology strategy and risk management practices. He led audits, strategic technology planning, and interim CIO roles for over 200 law firms, including fundamental IT transformations and outsourcing.

He has developed market leading approaches to improving technology and value in risk intolerant markets, including the “Technology Scorecard” which audits costs, staffing, ITIL-based IT process maturity, technology design, and business process effectiveness and the “Operational Risk Management” methodology, which assesses conflicts of interest, new business intake, data privacy, IT, and other risks using ISO 27001 and 31000 standards.

In Dave’s 20 years with Hildebrandt Baker Robbins, he led full law firm merger integrations, including a two year integration effort for the third largest firm in the world, and he led the transition and growth of the firm’s London office from 2002 to 2005, including projects with firms in the UK, Germany, France, Hong Kong, The Netherlands, and Italy.
