Derek Lazzaro is an IT executive and licensed attorney (CA) with over 15 years of experience providing leadership in IT, cybersecurity, and compliance.
Derek currently serves as Chief Information Officer at LewisBrisbois, where he heads digital transformation and information governance across 50 office locations at the 9th largest law firm in the United States.
Previously, Derek worked at the University of Southern California, serving as CIO of the USC Information Sciences Institute, and Assistant CIO for the overall university.
As CIO for ISI, Derek provided IT leadership for a highly-secure federal research laboratory with primary funding from DARPA and other U.S. agencies. While at ISI, he led a cyber security enhancement project to ensure compliance with all 110 security controls required under the federal NIST 800-171 standard. As Assistant CIO, Derek led the reorganization of the university’s 350-person central IT department. Derek also served as an active member of the university's executive cyber risk committee.
Derek volunteers as a member of the Los Angeles County Board of Supervisors Technology and Innovation Working Group and as chair and commissioner on the City of Palos Verdes Estates Planning Commission.
