Deana Uhl advises clients on designing, implementing, and enabling change management for information governance, data privacy, data security and e-discovery programs. With more than 26 years of experience, she brings particular expertise in advising oil and gas companies on the processes and technology to effectively address legal and regulatory matters and improve information quality, security and lifecycle management to improve operational excellence.
Prior to joining the Information Governance, Privacy and Security practice within FTI Consulting’s Technology segment, Ms. Uhl was Manager of Information Governance at Marathon Oil Company in Houston, Texas where she managed the information governance program and led the strategic development and execution of a holistic data management program that encompassed data privacy and security. This included developing a data governance strategy aligned with industry best practices, evaluating and recommending various policy, process and technology solutions, collaborating with executive stakeholders throughout the organization, managing a dynamic team and providing expert witness testimony on the results.
While at Marathon Oil, Ms. Uhl also led the in-house development of the company’s e-discovery and privacy program where she was acting Chief Privacy Officer. She also led the development and execution of a large-scale, multi-year project to better manage the company’s IP and organizational data.
Ms. Uhl holds a B.A. in political science, with a minor in business. She is a certified CIPP-E and is currently obtaining her CIPP- US. She is an active member with professional industry associations for data privacy and information governance. Her notable projects include large scale privacy program transformation and implementation for a large healthcare technology company, leading an independent information governance and privacy assessment for a large ATM provider, and acting 30(b)(6) expert for a large mining company related to their physical records program and legal discovery processes.
