Helen is a Managing Director and Associate General Counsel with BNY Mellon, where she runs the EMEA Markets, Clearance and Collateral Management legal teams. She has over 25 years’ experience across law and the financial services industry. Helen started her legal career with Allen & Overy, where she trained and worked in London and Hong Kong. She held positions with Credit Suisse and Merrill Lynch before moving to Barclays Investment Bank in 2004, where she led global derivatives teams. In 2014 she was appointed the Global General Counsel of Barclays Wealth and led an international team of 60 lawyers for four years. She then took a break from the law and qualified as a Company Secretary and pursued her interest in nutrition with a Leith’s qualification. After a six month contract as a “virtual partner” with the Bank of England, she was appointed to her current role with BNY Mellon.
At BNY Mellon she is the senior sponsor of the firm’s Global Counsel Network which champions lawyers at Counsel level and opens up training, mentoring and advancement opportunities for lawyers at this stage of their career. In her current and previous roles, Helen has worked on projects to automate aspects of contract lifecycle management and delivery.
