David Johnson serves as General Counsel for First Quantum Minerals, based in London, England, where he leads the company’s global legal strategy and supports operations across Africa, Latin America, the Asia-Pacific region, and the European Union. With more than 20 years of experience at the intersection of law, business, and strategy, Mr. Johnson has helped mining and natural-resources companies navigate complex cross-border issues, build resilient teams, and pursue responsible growth.

Prior to joining First Quantum, Mr. Johnson served as Chief Legal Counsel, Strategy and Business Development at CMOC Group Limited where he advised on the company’s global portfolio and long-term resource development projects. Earlier in his career, he represented mining companies, water-resource entities and utilities in both government and private practice.

Originally from the United States, Mr. Johnson holds a Master of Laws in Environmental Law from the Pace University Law School, a Juris Doctorate from the Southern Methodist University Dedman School of Law, and a Bachelor of Arts from Southern Methodist University.
