Speaker Bio
Darren K. Ishmael is a litigator and Managing Director at DRC. He leads a multidisciplinary team of litigation consultants, social psychologists, and information designers. Together, they design focus group presentations to effectively test key evidence, demonstratives, and trial themes before panels of mock jurors or retired judges. Darren and his team closely analyze community attitude surveys, focus group deliberations, and questionnaires to develop innovative, data-driven trial strategies based on the rules of evidence, behavioral research, and proven persuasion techniques. Darren also collaborates with clients on-site during trial preparation, helping to shape demonstrative aids, prepare witnesses, and refine opening and closing arguments. His hands-on approach ensures that DRC's strategic insights translate into courtroom impact.

As an experienced litigator and former actor/playwright, Darren specializes in transforming complex disputes into persuasive narratives and creative demonstratives that resonate with fact finders. Since joining DRC in 2017, Darren has worked on several notable matters, including representing multiple Fortune 500 companies and public figures in high-profile criminal cases and civil matters with billions of dollars of potential liability.

Prior to joining the firm, Darren spent nearly a decade as a litigation associate at Shearman & Sterling and DLA Piper. He represented domestic and international clients in high-stakes matters, including securities fraud, insurance, antitrust, white-collar criminal defense, and employment disputes. His experience at these firms informs his strategic approach to trial strategy consulting.

Darren earned his J.D. from Fordham University School of Law and is admitted to practice in New York. He received his B.A. in Theater Arts from the University of California, Los Angeles (UCLA). Before law school, he worked in television production at CBS Sports and Viacom/MTV Networks, including on the production team for MTV’s controversial Super Bowl XXXVIII halftime show.
