Andrew Gratz has been practicing law for over twenty years, and currently serves as Associate General Counsel at LyondellBasell, a publicly traded petrochemical company, where he has led global teams through a multitude of legal and operational challenges, from bankruptcy to complex commercial negotiations to multibillion dollar acquisitions.

In 2023, Mr. Gratz created Lawyers as Leaders, a course dedicated to providing critical leadership skills and training to legal professionals. Mr. Gratz currently teaches this course at the University of Houston Law Center, where he also founded the Initiative on Lawyers as Leaders, which promotes the study
of what it means to be an effective and productive leader in the legal profession.

During his career, Mr. Gratz has been recognized and profiled by the Houston Chronicle, Texas Lawyer, LawDragon, Texas Law Book and Modern Counsel magazine for his global management skills and legal leadership. In addition, Mr. Gratz has received numerous prestigious awards, including the Texas General Counsel Forum Magna Stella Award for Best Senior Managing Counsel—Large Legal Department and the Houston Corporate Counsel Award for Senior Counsel of the Year for a Large Legal Department. Mr. Gratz was also a finalist for the Financial Times Innovative Lawyer Awards for Innovation in Legal Expertise--Enabling Business Growth and Transformation and the ACC Global Counsel Award for Mergers and Acquisitions.

Mr. Gratz received his law degree from the University of Houston Law Center, magna cum laude, where he served on the Houston Law Review, and received his Master of Business Administration from the University of Texas at Dallas. He is the former Chair of the Corporate Counsel Section of the Houston Bar Association and past President of the Society for Corporate Governance―Houston Chapter.
