Jon DeBord is the Head of Legal – Banking & Derivatives at Robinhood, where he leads legal oversight for the firm’s derivatives brokerage, banking services, and credit card products. His practice focuses on the regulatory and operational frameworks for futures, event contracts, and retail banking innovation.
Prior to Robinhood, Jon served as General Counsel of ForecastEx, a Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC)-regulated exchange, and held senior legal roles at Interactive Brokers and Citi. During his nine years at Citi, he served as Director and Associate General Counsel, acting as a primary subject-matter expert for derivatives trading, clearing, and the LIBOR transition. Jon’s expertise is rooted in his tenure at the CFTC during the implementation of the Dodd-Frank Act. As Counsel to Commissioner Jill E. Sommers, he advised on cross-border jurisdictional issues and foundational rulemakings for swap execution facilities and customer protection.
Jon earned his J.D., magna cum laude, from Georgetown Law, where he was a member of the Order of the Coif, and holds a B.A. in Economics from Davidson College.
