Thomas Caruso serves as Chief Legal Officer, Senior Vice President, and Corporate Secretary at Mirabito Energy Products, a diversified energy, retail, and real estate company operating across the Northeast. In this role, he leads the company’s legal, compliance, governance, and risk management functions, advising the CEO and Board of Directors on complex legal issues, strategic growth, and enterprise-level transactions.
Tom brings over a decade of legal experience spanning the military, private practice, and public service. He previously practiced complex litigation at Nixon Peabody LLP, representing Fortune 500 companies in commercial disputes, post-M&A litigation, and regulatory investigations. Prior to entering private practice, he served as a federal judicial law clerk for the Chief Judge of the U.S. District Court for the Northern District of New York.
A former U.S. Navy JAG officer, Tom spent nearly 10 years advising senior military leaders as general counsel to elite Navy SEAL and nuclear submarine commands. He led or advised on more than 600 investigations, including several high-visibility, politically sensitive, and operationally complex matters involving senior leadership, national security implications, and interagency scrutiny. His military legal work also encompassed government contracts, international law, personnel actions, and cyber operations.
Tom holds a J.D. and M.P.A. from Syracuse University, both summa cum laude, and a B.A. from the University of Notre Dame. He is a frequent speaker on legal leadership, compliance strategy, high-stakes investigations, and navigating the transition from public service to private sector executive roles.
