RT3: AI in Europe: Practical Considerations for International Companies and Impact on Governance Strategies
Monday, November 18, 2024, 12:45 PM - 2:15 PM

The EU's Artificial Intelligence Act is a world first – a comprehensive AI regulation. Whether you are using, developing, or selling AI in Europe, you need to consider if and how the AI Act applies, even if companies don't have teams on the ground. The AI Act has a risk-based approach, so it won't apply to all AI systems and models in the same way, but the obligations are wide reaching and cover generative AI too. In any case we can expect customer, consumer, and regulator interest in how companies are approaching compliance – to be strong. The AI Act entered into force on 1 August 2024 with some of the provisions applying from beginning of 2025 – the prohibited risk categories, and others over the next 9-33 months.

We'll set out an overview of the EU AI Act and talk through key practical considerations for companies using, deploying, and selling AI in Europe and how to leverage existing governance programs to help streamline compliance.
