Speaker Bio
Lisa Ann Cooney is Sr. Vice President, General Counsel, and Corporate Secretary for Day & Zimmermann. Lisa is an experienced, business-minded General Counsel whose mission is to assist Day & Zimmermann in achieving its goals by partnering proactively with all departments to appropriately manage and mitigate risk. Lisa subscribes to the vision that attorneys are partners, not impediments, to lawful business operations.

Lisa is the first female General Counsel in the Company’s 120 year history. She also is Chair of the Ethics and Compliance Committee, the designated Senior Official for the Company’s Insider Threat Program,
and a member of the Company’s nine-person Leadership Council, which makes decisions regarding overall strategy and policy. Day & Zimmerman’s business operations require it to on-board and off-board tens of thousands of employees and consultants each year in high threat, blue collar, white collar, and safety-sensitive environments. Lisa intimately understands these environments, and she balances a wide range of priorities in a fast-paced environment to meet all statutory and regulatory requirements.

Lisa leads and mentors a team of 25 plus high-performing individuals in the Company’s Law Department. Lisa also is a vocal advocate for diversity and inclusion; she is the Executive Sponsor of the Company’s LGBT + Allies Employee Resource Group and a standing member of its Executive Diversity and Inclusion Committee.

Lisa’s commitment to a diversity goes beyond work; she was the 2015 recipient of the Mary M. Yoh and H.L. Yoh Jr. Community Service Award, which the Company awards to the employee who best exemplifies dedication to the community through participation in charitable and civil causes. For several years, Lisa served on the Board of Directors for Habitat for Humanity in Burlington County, New Jersey.

Prior to her current role, Lisa was General Counsel and a member of the executive leadership team for Yoh, a business group of Day & Zimmermann that provides high performing staffing solutions to some of the world’s largest companies. Over the course of her career with Yoh, Lisa guided litigation strategy, was responsible for contract negotiation and advice, and supported M&A and due diligence activities for several acquisitions, including those in Europe. Lisa served on the legislative committee of the American Staffing Association and was considered “best-in-class” by her peers in litigation strategy and management. She also was nominated twice for the Company’s Eugene J. D’Ambrosio Project Manager of the Year award for her M&A work.
Lisa began her legal career working at Morgan Lewis & Bockius, LLP and Ballard Spahr Andrews & Ingersoll, LLP. At both firms, she was a member of the labor and employment practice group, where she gained extensive litigation experience in both the class-action and single-plaintiff context, experience and insight she uses today to minimize class-action litigation risk across the Company.

Lisa is a graduate of Douglass College at Rutgers University with a BA and the Rutgers University School of Law with a JD. While at Rutgers, Lisa was the Lead Research Editor for the Rutger’s Law Journal (the competitive law review), was a Lyndon B. Johnson Fellow, and a legal research and writing teaching assistant.

Lisa serves on the Leadership Committee for the Forum for Executive Women and is a member of the National Association of Women Lawyers, the Association of Corporate Counsel and the Philadelphia Council for Business Economics.

A life-long Philadelphia sports fan, Lisa resides in New Jersey, where she grew up.
