Dawn Maruna is Director & Assistant General Counsel for Privacy and Data Protection at Palo Alto Networks, Inc., where she advises on privacy, AI, cybersecurity, data, and technology matters. She builds and scales privacy and AI governance programs and partners with technical and business teams on enterprise technology, custom AI systems, workforce privacy, product counseling, cross-border data, and global compliance. Over more than 15 years, she has helped domestic and international entities navigate major shifts in technology and regulation, from the introduction of the EU GDPR to the rapid evolution of AI.
Previously, Dawn led privacy for Clear Channel Outdoor’s Americas business, where she built the company’s privacy program and advised senior leaders through the company’s separation from iHeartMedia, the expansion of adtech and data-driven advertising, and the operational challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic. Earlier, she co-chaired the GDPR and Information Technology practices at an Am Law 100 firm, advising startups, Fortune 500 companies, and highly regulated organizations on privacy compliance and complex commercial matters (e.g., connected cars, electronic health records systems, software development and licensing, and colocation). She also served as lead counsel for a U.S. Farm Credit System regional bank’s Technology department, working closely with the bank’s CISO and advising the bank’s leadership and executive board on enterprise technology, corporate, and regulatory issues.
Dawn began her legal career in New York City as a complex commercial litigator and re/insurance coverage counsel. A former IT manager and software trainer, she is a published legal author, national speaker, and longtime advocate for equal access to justice. She founded and led a multilingual legal advocacy committee at the New York City Bar Association and was appointed by New York State’s Chief Justice to a state-wide advisory committee on court interpreting. She currently serves as Co-Chair of the Nashville Metro Chapter of Women in Security and Privacy (WISP).
Dawn holds the IAPP’s AIGP, CIPP/US, CIPP/E, CIPM, and FIP credentials and is admitted to practice in New York, New Jersey, and Tennessee.
