Melissa K. Caen is Vice President and Assistant Secretary for Southern Company. She is responsible for securities, finance, disclosure and corporate governance legal matters. She served as corporate Secretary from 2013-2016. Prior to joining Southern Company in 2006, Melissa was a partner at Troutman Sanders LLP and also practiced at Skadden, Arps, Slate, Meagher & Flom LLP in Chicago. She is the past president of the Southeastern Chapter of the Society for Corporate Governance and a founding board member of the Greater Atlanta Chapter of the Women’s Energy Network. Melissa is a member of the Georgia and Illinois Bars. She graduated summa cum laude from Vanderbilt University with degrees in mathematics and anthropology and received a J.D. from Stanford Law School. Melissa is a native of Memphis, Tennessee.
