Moya Novella is Privacy and AI Policy Counsel at IBM, where she advises on the organization’s policy and advocacy strategy for emerging global privacy and artificial intelligence legislations and regulations. Moya advises IBM’s Government and Regulatory Affairs team and AI Ethics Office on initiatives to drive thought leadership on global privacy and AI regulatory policy. She also leads cross-functional efforts for keeping apprised of, analyzing, and preparing commentary on globally proposed privacy and AI policies. Moya has also served as IBM’s privacy law lead for mergers & acquisitions and divestitures, and has advised on compliance with global privacy laws for IBM’s business-to-business transactions. Moya serves as Adjunct Professor of Privacy Law at Seton Hall University School of Law in New Jersey, and Albany Law School in New York. She also speaks internationally at industry and law conferences on the topics of globally emerging data privacy and AI legislative and regulatory policies. Her academic credentials include: B.S. in Sociology from State University of New York, Old Westbury; M.A. in Public Policy from Stonybrook University; and J.D. from St. John's University School of Law. Moya has also completed post-graduate studies at: GIMPA Faculty of Law in Ghana, West Africa; Cambridge University Trinity College, England; the United Nations in Geneva, Switzerland; and University of Santiago de Compostela in Galicia, Spain. She holds CIPP/E and CIPP/US privacy certifications from the International Association of Privacy Professionals, and AI policy certifications from IBM’s AI Skills Academy.
