Ruchi Verma began practicing law at Sidley & Austin, LLP in 2003. In 2008 she joined the Chicago Board of Education'sLaw Department as an Assistant General Counsel. She was promoted to lead the school law unit as deputy general counsel in 2012. In 2019, the Board tapped Ruchi to be the first assistant to the general counsel, drawing on her wealth of knowledge and experience in education issues. In March 2023, Ruchi became the General Counsel. As general counsel, Ruchi leads the District’s Law Department, advising on general litigation, labor and employment matters, school law, school finance, student discipline, commercial transactions, and workers’ compensation.

Ruchi is a graduate of the University of Illinois with a B.A. in Political Science and Speech Communications and the University of Pennsylvania Law School.
