Dr. Julie Shimer served until 2012 in the roles of Chief Executive Officer and Chief Innovation Officer of Welch Allyn, a $700 million revenue global manufacturer of medical equipment. From 2001 to 2007, she was CEO of Vocera Communications, a wireless communications company. Earlier in her career, she held positions at noteworthy businesses such as 3Com, Motorola, AT&T Bell Laboratories, and Bethlehem Steel.
Dr. Shimer serves on the board of directors of Masimo, a global medical technology developer and manufacturer of innovative noninvasive patient monitoring technologies (2019–present), Halyard Health (2014–present). She previously served on the boards of Earthlink and Netgear. She also serves on several nonprofit boards.
She is a senior member of the Society of Women Engineers and a member of both the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers and the National Association of Corporate Directors.
Dr. Shimer has a B.S. in physics from Rensselaer Polytechnic Institute and an M.S. and Ph.D. in electrical engineering from Lehigh University.
She has been married to her husband, Jary, since 1973. They live in New Mexico, where they are enjoying retirement.
