Marion Hemphill is General Counsel and Chief Privacy Officer of Australian Red Cross Lifeblood, an organisation whose purpose is life giving blood, plasma, transplantation and biological products for world leading health outcomes. Marion has over 20 years’ experience as a corporate lawyer, working in-house and at large law firms in Australia, London and New Zealand. Her professional experience has
included a wide breadth of commercial advice, negotiations with regulators and incident response. Marion is a proponent of focusing on compliance, risk and ethics as a fundamental step to achieving strategic goals. Marion is a Board member of Melbourne City Mission. In 2019 Marion was a finalist in the Not for Profit category of the Lawyers Weekly Corporate Counsel Awards.
In 2016 Lifeblood experienced a significant privacy data breach and had to respond urgently to maintain public trust in order to continue to provide Australia’s blood supply. The response was praised by the Office of the Australian Information Commissioner as an example of best practice incident response.
