Ben Allen is a partner in the dispute resolution team at Dentons with close to 25 years’ experience and leads the Global Compliance and Investigations team in Australia. Ben has a reputation for achieving the best commercial outcomes for his clients with a calm, measured approach to the disputes process and regulator engagement. He is consistently recognised by his peers as a leading cyber security expert, including as finalist for the Cyber Partner of the Year by Lawyers Weekly in 2023 and finalist for Cyber Security Lawyer of the Year by Australia Cyber Security Awards in 2023.
Ben acts for clients in both contentious and non-contentious data privacy matters and works side by side with clients to manage data breaches by directing forensic analysis, remediating vulnerabilities, understanding legal requirements and coordinating communications with people whose information was compromised as well as with regulators.
In addition he advises clients on data retention and privacy policies and their implementation, privacy legislation and regulatory compliance, issues arising under the Privacy Act and the Australian Privacy Principles, and the exemptions available for disclosure of personal information overseas, restrictions on use and disclosure of personal information, provision of privacy notifications and broader data security issues.
