Daniel has worked as in house lawyer in publicly listed companies for the better part of 15 years. A large proportion of this has been spent at Adelaide based global technology company – Codan Limited (Codan). Codan has 15 sales offices globally and over 750 employees.

At present, Daniel (the Company’s Group General Counsel and Joint Company Secretary), leads the Group’s Legal, Company Secretarial, Corporate Governance and broader compliance functions (which, notably, includes ESG, ABAC, Data governance and privacy and modern slavery). During Daniel’s near 11-year tenure at Codan, he has overseen a vast array of workstreams. A small sample includes:

Significant project in tackling IP theft and shutting down a significant threat relating to counterfeit activities for one of Codan’s key business unit’s products. This involved cross border coordination and enforcement activities in China and the Middle East.

Assuming Company Secretarial role and standard regulatory interactions with ASX, ASIC and global corporate regulators.

Significant role in Codan’s inorganic growth, leading legal, compliance and commercial negotiations of 5 acquisitions in the last 3 years and 1 divestment. This has involved significant interaction with legal teams at a global level as well as US and UK regulators given sensitive nature of the acquisitions made.

Making efforts to implement and run a harmonised global compliance program and leading a global legal support function.

Daniel was awarded a grant by the South Australian Industry Leaders Fund (SA ILF). The SA ILF is a privately funded organisation providing grants to existing and emerging South Australian business leaders at the top CEO and MD level. The selection process mirrors the Fulbright scholarship program, and the grant provides part-funding for the scholar to attend a globally prestigious executive education program. For Daniel, this partly funded attendance at the Program for Leadership Development (PLD) at Harvard Business School in United States. This being a program akin to a compressed MBA with a strong focus on leadership development and accelerating the careers of high potential leaders. Daniel recently completed this program earning Harvard alumni status.
