Paul Sweeney is an English-qualified Solicitor with a degree in European law and languages from the University of the West of England, Bristol. He is currently Head of Legal & Governance at Legal & General Investment Management ("LGIM").
Paul joined LGIM in 2004 and was appointed Head of Legal in 2008. He currently leads the Legal & Governance team (comprising Legal, Company Secretarial and Fund Governance) in the UK and has responsibility for LGIM's global legal affairs. The Legal & Governance team negotiates client, counterparty and fund documentation, researches and advises on matters of general law, discharges the company secretariat function (in relation to both regulated and unregulated corporate entities and funds) and advises the board on governance and regulation.
He joined LGIM in 2004 from the Financial Services Authority where he trained and practised as a Solicitor in the General Counsel’s Division with responsibilities including advising the FSA on the exercise of its functions under FSMA and on the scope of FSA Rules and EU Directives.
