Daniel Lai

Former in-house counsel at Crypto.com and Airwallex

Daniel is a senior lawyer in the crypto industry, with a background in crypto regulation, securities law and e-money/payments regulation. He was formerly a VP, Lead Regulatory and Product Counsel with Crypto.com and also Head of Legal at Airwallex, where he analyzed various business models, product configurations and product features, mapped them onto the regulatory landscape, identified areas of regulatory uncertainty, and crafted customized business expansion and go-to-market strategies.

Before he entered the crypto and payments space, he was Vice President and Legal Counsel with Credit Suisse’s Investment Banking and Capital Markets division and also worked at law firms such as Freshfields, O’Melveny and White & Case. In these roles, he advised companies and financial institutions on corporate finance transactions and undertook general corporate legal advisory work. Daniel obtained a B.A. (in Economics and Rhetoric) at U.C. Berkeley, an M.A. (in East Asian Languages and Cultures) at Columbia University, and a Juris Doctor at Tulane University.
