Diane is the Chief Legal Officer & General Counsel of the National University of Singapore, having joined the Office of the President as General Counsel in 2004. She played a pivotal role in the setting up of NUS’ Office of Legal Affairs in 2005 as a separate unit of the University and was its inaugural Head. A seasoned counsel, Diane came to NUS from private practice and was a partner in Singapore’s oldest law practice.

Leading the team at OLA, Diane represents the University in all legal matters, and provides legal counsel to the Board, senior management, academic, research, innovation and research units of the University and related organisations.

In the span of her career at NUS, Diane has been privileged to play a part in the growth and evolution of both NUS and the autonomous university sector in Singapore, participating in the corporatisation of NUS, and the establishment of the Duke-NUS Medical School, Singapore’s flagship graduate-entry medical school, and the Yale-NUS College, Singapore’s first liberal arts college.

Diane was conferred the Public Administration Medal (Silver) (Pingat Pentadbiran Awam (Perak)) at the 2021 National Day Awards. She was the winner of the 2022 Chief Legal Officer Awards in the Public Sector Category, presented by the Singapore Corporate Counsel Association. She is an alumna of NUS, graduating with a Bachelor of Laws (Honours) degree and is admitted as an Advocate and Solicitor of the Supreme Court of Singapore.

Diane believes in the importance of maintaining wellness, both physical and mental, and practising empathy as a choice. Bringing those values as well as deep institutional knowledge to the intrinsic professionalism and integrity of her role, Diane focuses on delivering inventive outcomes that advance and protect the University’s strategic interests while navigating complex legal and policy issues.
