Chiraag Maharaj is Group Legal Counsel at Axis House Group, a South African-headquartered mining reagents business with operations and commercial interests across Africa and internationally. An admitted attorney of the High Court of South Africa, she advises the Group on commercial transactions, cross-border contracting, dispute resolution, corporate governance, regulatory compliance, and legal risk.

Reporting directly to the Group CEO, Chiraag works closely with executive leadership and operational teams, positioning Legal as a strategic business partner rather than simply a risk or advisory function. She has focused on building a commercially responsive and scalable in-house legal capability through standardised contracting frameworks, process improvement, legal technology, and automation.

Her approach to legal resourcing balances developing internal capability with the strategic use of external counsel, particularly where specialist expertise, jurisdictional knowledge or additional capacity creates genuine value.
