Shane Wafer is the Vice President: Legal, Sport at CANAL+ Africa, formerly Executive Head of Legal at SuperSport International (prior to the CANAL+/MultiChoice merger), where he leads the legal strategy for one of Africa's largest sports media businesses and serves as a member of the executive leadership team.

He is responsible for the legal, commercial and regulatory oversight of the acquisition, exploitation and protection of sports media rights across sub-Saharan Africa, advising on some of the world's most valuable sports properties, including the FIFA World Cup, UEFA Champions League, Premier League, Formula 1, Rugby World Cup, ICC Cricket World Cup, Wimbledon and the Olympic Games. His portfolio spans complex commercial negotiations, mergers and acquisitions, strategic partnerships, intellectual property, anti-piracy enforcement, corporate governance and regulatory affairs across linear, digital and streaming platforms.

Prior to joining the executive leadership of CANAL+ Africa, Shane built a broad sports law practice advising rights holders, broadcasters, governing bodies and professional athletes across Africa. He is the founder of Javelin Sports Law and has served as legal counsel to organisations including the South African Institute for Drug-Free Sport (SAIDS), the National Horseracing Authority and SuperSport Schools. He has also held governance and disciplinary appointments within South African sport, including as a member of the Premier Soccer League Disciplinary Committee and as an independent board member of the Eastern Cricket Union. He currently serves as a board member of Titans Cricket.

An accredited mediator and arbitrator, Shane is a regular contributor to leading sports law publications and frequently speaks on the commercial, legal and governance challenges shaping the future of sport and media. He is passionate about demonstrating how modern legal departments can drive commercial value, influence business strategy and enable growth in highly regulated industries.
