Speaker Bio
Kim Edwards is the Head of Legal at The SPAR Group Limited, one of Southern Africa’s leading retail and wholesale groups, operating across South Africa and selected international markets.
She leads the Group’s in house legal function with responsibility for legal strategy, governance, and complex commercial and litigation matters across a large, decentralised organisation. Kim works closely with executive leadership and operational teams to support high stakes decision making, particularly in time pressured environments where commercial urgency must be balanced with sound governance, risk ownership, and fiduciary responsibility. Drawing on experience gained both in legal practice and in house, Kim brings a pragmatic, commercially grounded approach to legal risk. Her background informs a strong focus on judgment, clarity, and advice that can be confidently relied on by the business, particularly where decisions may later be scrutinised. Her experience spans retail and franchise operations, supply chain and procurement, property and store transactions, mergers and acquisitions, technology and data driven contracting, competition and regulatory matters, and dispute management. She is particularly focused on embedding legal advice into business decision making in a way that supports momentum without compromising defensibility. Kim is actively engaged in discussions on the evolving role of the in-house legal function, including legal team design, leadership under pressure, crisis time decision making, and the responsible adoption of AI.
