Tšepiso Makwetla is a seasoned journalist with almost thirty years of experience in news and current affairs nationally; regionally and internationally. She has moderated and facilitated public policy dialogues and events over the years that has seen her achieve recognition from various entities. She is an Edward Murrow Fellow (an award granted globally to only 17 journalists a year) and a 2023 Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation Goalkeeper for her work in the health sector; recognising her CSI work in the maternal, newborn, child and adolescent health rights and wellbeing spaces. Tšepiso was the South African Health Department’s MomConnect Ambassador, leading her to be asked to launch She Decides in South Africa
and as a Co-Host for Women Deliver, and hosting events for PMNCH; UNAids; Unicef; Global Health Strategies; International Labour Organisation and International Parliamentary Union. She has worked extensively within the UN and AU systems, among others, to further her passion of improving global health systems and access in line with SDG goals; and as a vocal proponent to reducing poverty and inequality; and campaign for youth inclusivity in policy design and implementation. She has notably been approached
too to lend her experience and commitment to agencies like the WHO (launch of Universal Health Coverage Day in Tokyo; leading the WHO Africa Region Covid 19 press conferences); IMF (the launch of their Youth Dialogue during their annual meeting); and the AU’s high level dialogues.
