Sean is the tax leader for the Financial Institution and Specialty Finance Industry practice. He has more than 20 years of experience advising community, regional, and national banking and specialty finance institutions. In addition, he has served a wide variety of clients, including publicly traded, multinational, and smaller growth-oriented companies on tax issues related to the real estate, technology, and manufacturing industries.
He has experience consulting on corporate structuring, stock options and equity issues, M&A, methods of accounting, R&D, consolidated tax returns, pass-through entities, and individual income taxes. He has extensive experience in the area of accounting for income taxes under IFRS and US GAAP. In addition, he has widespread experience addressing various state and international tax issues including identification and implementation of tax strategies for income, non-income, and transaction taxes.
Prior to joining BDO, Sean held tax leadership roles with both publicly traded and private equity-owned businesses. He began his career with a Big Four firm and was a member of their National ASC 740 team. Sean has also previously been an Adjunct Professor at the School of Business for Virginia Commonwealth University.
